~ Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque ~ REVIEW ~

Helloo~

So a while ago, my friend Xan from Tiny White Bra (please go check out her blog ^^) gave me her bottle of Mint Julep masque, because sadly it didn't do anything for her, so she stopped using it. I'm really thankful, because this mask has been on my wishlist for ages and now I got a chance to try it before actually purchasing it. And it actually worked quite well for me!

So first a little information; this is what the package says:
Mint Julep Masque is the original natural home treatment to help dry up pimples, rinse away blackheads and shrink enlarged pores. Simply apply Mint Julep Masque to your clean face and neck. As it firms and hardens within minutes, it draws out impurities from your pores. After the masque is removed, your skin will feel clean, refreshed and smooth. Even for individuals who are fortunate to be free of skin problems, Mint Julep Masque is a refreshing facial treatment that helps relax tired muscles and ease tension lines on the face and neck.
DIRECTIONS: Cleanse face and neck thoroughly. Apply Mint Julep Masque generously and allow to dry for about 15 minutes. Remove with warm water and a washcloth.
INGREDIENTS: Water (Aqua), Kaolin, Bentonite, Glycerin, Zinc Oxide, Propylene Glycol, Sulfur, Chromium Oxide Green (CI#77288), Fragrance (Parfum), Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben

This mask is very popular in the US, and a lot of people talk about this on Youtube and on blogs. This retails for about $3,99 in the US, and you get 226,9 g/8 oz. of product, which is a lot. I really don't know the retailing prizes in other countries, because I think it really depends on where you get it. Xan got this for €5 at Afro Indian Market in the Hague. And I'm probably going to purchase it from there as well, because the cheapest I found on dutch webshops was €8.

My own experience and how I use it:
I don't really suffer from acne, and I only get breakouts around my time of the month. Aside from that, I do have blackheads on my nose area and pore strips don't work for me, so was hoping this would help getting rid of them.
I decided to use this everyday for about a week (leaving it for 15 minutes like it says in the directions) and after that just using it 1-2 times a week. This 'method' didn't do much for me and I went on MakeUpAlley to see if there were other ways to use it, to make it more effective.
So I tried leaving this overnight, and I'm so happy I did. When I woke up, I washed this off and my breakouts were almost completely gone/incredibly decreased. My face felt very refreshed and soft, and there wasn't any redness ^^. For blackhead removal, I have to say I didn't notice anything special but that is probably something that is going to happen over time.
This mask has a permanent place in my skincare routine now, and at the moment I'm using this about once every week/2 weeks, depending on my skin condition.

This is the routine I like to follow when I use it:
1. I start off by washing my face with a gentle face wash.
2. Then patting it dry with a towel.
3. Then I just start taking out small amounts, and using a flat foundation brush I cover my entire face - of course you can also use your fingers, but a brush works better for me.
4. Then I go off to bed. Don't worry it won't stain your pillowcase because it dries after 10 minutes.
5. When I wake up in the morning I use one of those yellow facial sponges and lukewarm water to wipe the mask off my face.
6. After making sure I washed everything off, I splash my face with cold water.
7. Then I just do my usual skincare routine

I want to point out that if you have sensitive skin, you should probably stick to leaving this for just 15 minutes.

Here are my ratings for the mask:

PRICE 5/5= I think this is really cheap when you look at what this does for me and how much product you get.

PACKAGING 3/5= The mask comes in a plastic jar package and a tube package (which I own), and in my opinion the tube package is much better when it comes to hygiene. But even then, it can get a little messy so I always make sure I wipe off any mask that's on the opening of the tube.

CONSISTENCY/SCENT 4/5= The consistency is very thick and can be a little hard to spread, but in the end it turns out fine. It has a bright green color that turns light mint green when it dries. The scent is very nice in my opinion, it smells like spearmint chewing gum c: But people who are sensitive to heavy scents will probably dislike it. But good thing is that the scent vanishes after a few minutes.

BUY AGAIN: YES~!= I absolutely love this, and I'm definitely going to continue using this. And also the tube Xan gave me is almost finished, so I'll be repurchasing a new one soon

I would recommend this to people who suffer from minor breakouts, because I don't think this will work for people with a lot of acne. But that doesn't mean you can't try it~! And if you already tried this, please share your experience with it in the comments ^^

So this was my review, I really hope it was helpful~!
Btw, my friend Elli has a DIY blog, so please check it out here ^^ > DIY With Elli
